You

All stakeholders are invited and welcome, including academic and clinical scientists, health care practitioners, global public health, FDA, members of the pharmaceutical, nicotine, and tobacco industries, and non-profits / NGOs.

Us

Together, we share and present our research, technologies, advances, and scientific insights. Us is a philosophy of breaking down barriers, even for just one day, so that together we advance on a path to mitigate the health toll caused by tobacco products.

Them

At the Nicotine and Tobacco Science Conference, we follow a 25 year tradition that there is no "them". We ask that all participants follow a norm of respectful dialogue, curiousity and engagement with others.

I believe that one of the most important things to learn in life is that you can make a difference in your community no matter who you are." - Rosalynn Carter

Conference History

Spanning 24 years from 1995 - 2019, Dr. Jed E. Rose and colleague Dr. Ed Levin organized the Duke Nicotine Research Conference, a diverse and well attended scientific conference. This conference was aimed at "across the aisle" discussion, bringing leading academic and industry researchers together with a focus on smoking cessation, tobacco harm reduction, and understanding the underlying mechanisms contributing to cigarette addiction. This conference came to an abrupt pause due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

With a fresh start under the sponsorship of the Rose Research Center, the Nicotine and Tobacco Science Conference will continue the legacy of addressing the latest knowledge and practices relating to this area with high public health impact. The 2023 conference will explore advances in scientific and clinical approaches relating to smoking cessation and harm reduction.

While the NTSC Conference is national is scope, it has a regional emphasis, seeking to highlight the latest science from leading centers of research in the Southeast and Eastern United States.
